ABOUT:
Island ETC is Galveston County's only professional repertory theatre company and stages 5 to 6 productions a year. Although many in our company were here during the infant stages of what was then called the Strand Street Theatre in the 70's, we have been operating as Island ETC (the east-end theatre company) since 2002. Our previous space was located on Postoffice Street at 20th, but Hurricane Ike devastated that location just as plans were being made to move in and take over the Strand Theatre. Through the generosity of local patrons, we re-opened in July 2009 with a re-staging of CABARET the show that put us on the map as a company. The historic Strand Theatre building is a proud and beautifully restored survivor of the Storm of 1900 and Hurricane Ike.
We are located across from the historic Tremont Hotel on Mechanic Street (see our CONTACT page for a map and further info). Parking is street parking and free after 5pm.
DRESS: The dress at Island ETC is always island casual or whatever you desire. We just ask you were shirts and shoes (bottoms too).
CONCESSIONS: We do have light concessions, however our concessions are cash only.
STUDENTS on STAGE:
Directed by Jennifer Daugherty, we offer a children's theatre education program titled Students on Stage that instructs the students in the many areas of theatrical production. Sessions are offered during the academic school year and summer break, and they culminate in 3 live public performances at the end of each session. Information available on our CLASSES page.
ACCESSIBILITY:
Island ETC offers accessible seating in the orchestra section of the theater with space for wheelchairs. Unfortunately, due to the age of our historic building, we cannot offer accessible seating in our balcony area.
If a ticket for the balcony is purchased, you must be able to navigate a flight of stairs.
And we’re about as good a spot as there is to view the annual Mardi Gras parade, so check back for tickets!
